Vocabulary
Resolve names, rare words, place names, nautical terms, invented language, and anything else that should not be guessed during recording.
Review vocabulary candidates
The Vocabulary tab groups pronunciation research into sortable fields so definition, transcription, respelling, and audio decisions can be checked separately.
- 1Open the Vocabulary tab.
- 2Scan Phrase, Definition, Transcription, Respelling, Transcription source, and Audio source.
- 3Use Search visible rows to focus on a name, term, language, source, or custom note.
- 4Use Columns to reduce the table to the fields needed for the current pass.

Choose transcription and audio sources
PrepBoss can surface multiple options for the same word. Choose the source that fits the manuscript context instead of treating the first option as automatically final.
- Wiktionary can provide transcriptions and readable respellings.
- Forvo can provide speaker-recorded pronunciation audio with country and speaker metadata.
- Wikimedia Commons can provide additional audio samples when available.
- User-recorded audio can be added when external sources do not match the desired pronunciation.
- 1From the Text tab vocabulary panel, click a vocabulary chip such as boatswain.
- 2Click the transcription options icon to compare available transcriptions and select the radio button for the one you want to use.
- 3Click the audio options icon to compare Forvo and Wikimedia Commons recordings, play previews, and select the preferred audio source.
- 4Add a custom note when the source needs context, such as character-specific pronunciation, invented spelling, or author preference.

Add terms and pronunciation notes
Vocabulary is not limited to what PrepBoss finds automatically. Add anything that will save time or prevent a mistake in session.
- 1Select a word or phrase in the Text tab.
- 2Click Discover pronunciation to add a vocabulary entry with manuscript context.
- 3Open the vocabulary details panel to review definition, transcription, respelling, custom note, context, and audio controls.
- 4Use Add custom note for direction that should travel with the term.

Made-up words and character names
If an author has a preferred pronunciation, add it as a custom note or user audio sample. That keeps invented language and names beside the exact passages where they appear.
